The Rotary Club of Kyadondo has embarked on a transformative journey in collaboration with Miti Conservatory Limited to protect, manage, and preserve Miti Village’s 300-acre triple land-use system in Mpatta Sub County, Mukono. This initiative aligns with Rotary’s core values and the areas of focus, particularly in environmental conservation and community economic development.
The overarching goal of the Miti Conservatory is to integrate natural forest systems with sustainable livelihoods. Through its Environment Conservation and Livelihoods Initiative, Miti Village aims to preserve its ecological wealth while uplifting the surrounding community.
This project is a stellar example of what partnerships can achieve when united for a common cause. Among the many partners contributing to this vision are:
• ECOTRUST
• Tukuuma Ltd
• Bivamuntuuyo Farmers Association
• Greensteds High School
• NUCAFE
• Holland Greentech
• Renewable Energy Business Incubator
• The Ministry of Water and Environment
Together, these organizations ensure that the Miti Conservatory becomes a hub of innovation and environmental stewardship.
Rotary Club of Kyadondo, alongside its partners, has adopted a long-term strategy to enhance the conservation and livelihood outcomes for Miti Village. The main projects under this initiative include:
1. Tree Planting Drives
Thousands of seedlings are being planted to restore forest cover and promote environmental sustainability. The involvement of Greensteds High School in this effort has been instrumental in nurturing a culture of conservation among young people.
2. Kabanga Sanitation Project
Addressing sanitation challenges in Kabanga Town has been a priority. The project focuses on providing clean and safe facilities for residents, improving their quality of life.
3. Community Engagement
Stakeholder meetings, workshops, and fellowships ensure that the project aligns with the community’s needs and aspirations. The inclusive approach fosters local ownership and sustainability of the initiatives.
The Miti Village Projects encapsulate several Rotary areas of focus, including:
• Supporting the Environment: Through afforestation and resource conservation.
• Community Economic Development: Empowering local farmers and businesses with sustainable practices.
• Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Ensuring clean water and proper sanitation facilities.
The collaboration between local and international partners has been vital in driving the success of the Miti Village initiative. Organizations such as NUCAFE and Holland Greentech have brought expertise in agribusiness, while ECOTRUST and the Ministry of Water and Environment have contributed to resource management and policy support.
The Rotary Club of Kyadondo and its partners have laid out a comprehensive three-year plan to ensure the continued success of the Miti Village Projects. This plan focuses on adopting a village-wide approach to integrate environmental conservation with sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that the gains made are both impactful and enduring.
The Miti Village initiative exemplifies the Rotary Club of Kyadondo’s commitment to service above self. As the project progresses, the club invites individuals and organizations to join hands in creating a sustainable future for Miti Village and its surrounding communities. Together, we can protect the environment and empower lives for generations to come.
